AWGroup Welcomes the APPG to Double Arches

In June 2023, AWGroup was delighted to welcome a delegation from the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Environment for a visit to the Turbine at Double Arches, and, for a lucky few, a trip to the top.

The day was designed to showcase quite how effective single, high-capacity turbines can be in the fight for Net Zero and Energy Security. The party, including members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, were shown drone footage of the turbine in the landscape and were treated to hot off the press time-lapse videos of the foundation pouring for the new turbine.

As it was a beautiful summer’s day, over half the guests were brave enough to ascend to the Nacelle, over 100m above the ground. With the assurance that 90m was to be travelled in a lift, the remaining 10m on a vertical ladder was a breeze.

For AWGroup, it is easy to see that the solution to many of the nation’s challenges can be solved with more of the technology already in operation, but it is vital for the team to bring this to life for the decision makers in Government, which is why this visit was so important. AWGroup is extremely fortunate and grateful for its supportive network of MPs, Peers, Councillors, and members of the community – without whom the battle for Net Zero will never be won.

As part of a wider engagement strategy, AWGroup regularly communicates with Members of Parliament, particularly those with professional and personal interests in Renewable Technologies, Housing, and Energy Security. One such MP is The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore, who is a vocal supporter of Onshore Wind, and in January 2023 published Mission Zero, Independent Review of Net Zero. A true Ambassador for the cause, AWGroup is proud to support Chris in his ambitions for the nation to become truly Net Zero.

Among several of his Westminster colleagues, Chris joined AWRenewables Managing Director, John Fairlie, at the top of the turbine. From his elevated vantage point, Chris was even brave enough to let go so he could tweet ‘Now outside on the top of Double Arches wind turbine- incredible view but incredible also that this one single turbine powers the equivalent of 1100 homes. With his Twitter feed flooded with fabulous images of the day, it is safe to say that it was a brilliant day all round.’
